| Other than being listed as a “previous issue” on her brother Thomas’s birth certificate a birth registration for Mary has not been found. It is rumoured that Mary was snatched away by her father never to be seen again

Oliver H Smith. b. 1824. Kentucky USA. (parents: William and Malinda Smith, nee, Hawes.) Believed to have come to Australia circa, 1858, with two surviving sons (Tom and Jack) from a marriage in America.
On the 25th May 1872 Oliver Marries Ann Morgan, Ellen’s mid-wife. They buy Dennis Connolly’s boarding house in Cowa (Upper Dargo) where they bring up the kids.
